Aluminium 5005 contains magnesium (0.5–1.1%) along with small amounts of iron, silicon, and chromium. It possesses tensile strength from ≈140 to 190 MPa. The alloy is not heat-treatable but hardens as a result of cold working. It possesses good corrosion resistance, especially in marine atmospheres and industrial, and finds extensive suitability for anodizing, thus making it ideal for protective and decorative coatings.

Aluminum 5005 offers excellent corrosion resistance, good weldability, formability, and moderate strength, making it ideal for custom forgings in architectural and marine applications, while providing a smooth, aesthetic finish.
Aluminum 5005 is not ideal for high-temperature forging applications. It has moderate strength and good corrosion resistance but lacks the high-temperature stability needed for forging processes.
Aluminum 5005 has good workability, allowing for easy forging. Its moderate strength and excellent corrosion resistance make it suitable for shaping, but it requires careful control of temperature to avoid cracking.
