Yes, Hastelloy C22 can be forged into custom shapes, as it has good formability and strength at elevated temperatures. However, it requires precise control during the forging process to maintain its properties.
The ideal temperature range for forging Hastelloy C22 is between 2,100°F (1,150°C) and 2,300°F (1,260°C). This ensures optimal formability and minimizes the risk of damaging the material's properties.
The forging process for Hastelloy C22 typically takes several minutes to hours, depending on the complexity and size of the part. The heating and cooling cycles also influence the total time required for forging.
Hastelloy C22 Forgings find wide application in corrosion-resistant, high-strength, and reliability-critical industries. In the chemical processing sector, they are utilized in reactors, heat exchangers, pumps, piping systems, and pressure vessels exposed to highly corrosive environments. Their resistance to oxidizing agents, acidic conditions, and chlorine allows them to be used in marine environments, pollution control systems, and pharmaceutical manufacturing systems. They are also used in the aerospace industry for parts that need maximum resistance to stress corrosion cracking and weldability. Their high performance and durability make Hastelloy C22 Forgings safe and reliable to use even in extreme conditions.
