Hastelloy W bars and rods are wrought nickel alloys primarily intended for high-temperature structural stability and good weldability. Due to its high tungsten content, Hastelloy W shows excellent resistance to cracking and thermal deterioration, particularly in welding applications. It finds extensive application in aerospace and high-temperature pressure vessels. These bars retain their mechanical properties even under thermal cycling and excessive stress, which makes them ideal for challenging engineering applications. Hastelloy W also exhibits outstanding oxidation resistance and stability in reducing atmospheres, providing long-term resistance under harsh service conditions where other alloys will fail.
Hastelloy W has about 65% nickel and 25–30% tungsten with small quantities of iron and molybdenum. Hastelloy W has high tensile strength (up to 880 MPa), good ductility, and excellent creep resistance at high temperatures. It is very resistant to welding and post-weld cracking. The alloy functions well in oxidizing and reducing conditions and displays superior metallurgical stability. It can be easily machined and hot-formed, and be welded together into assemblies without risk of embrittlement or reduction in mechanical strength.
