Incoloy 800 forgings are heavy-duty, high-temperature nickel-iron-chromium alloy components with a purpose of providing superior strength and oxidation in harsh thermal conditions. Manufactured in carefully controlled conditions, these forgings maintain their shape and properties when exposed to high temperatures for extended durations. Incoloy 800 has excellent resistance against carburizing, oxidation, and sulfidation. It finds application in high-heat and high-pressure industrial processes. The forgings have applications in power generation plants, chemical processing equipment, and heat treating equipment where corrosion and thermal stability are critical. Their homogeneous grain structure improves mechanical stability and life in service under thermal cycling and stress.
Incoloy 800 usually consists of 30–35% nickel, 19–23% chromium, and the remainder iron with trace amounts of aluminum and titanium. The tensile strength of the alloy is 500–700 MPa and yield strength of the order of 200–300 MPa. The alloy possesses superior oxidation resistance and scaling up to 1100°C. The alloy is ductile and tough even after long-time exposure to high temperatures. Forged Incoloy 800 provides enhanced grain refinement, increased fatigue strength, and greater dimensional accuracy. It is resistant to chloride stress-corrosion cracking, carburization, and sulfidation in high-heat chemical environments.

Yes, Incoloy 800 can be forged into custom shapes. Its excellent high-temperature resistance and strength make it suitable for various forging processes.
The ideal temperature range for forging Incoloy 800 is between 1,800°F to 2,200°F (982°C to 1,204°C). This range ensures optimal ductility and workability during the forging process.
To assess the forging strength of Incoloy 800 for aerospace applications, evaluate its tensile strength, yield strength, and fatigue resistance at elevated temperatures. Additionally, assess its performance under cyclic loads and long-term thermal stability.
Incoloy 800 forgings are applied to heat exchangers, furnace components, reformer outlet tubing, boiler parts, and superheaters. They are used in reactors, heating coils, and nitric and sulfuric acid-handling equipment in the chemical industry. They are utilized in the power industry for steam generator tubing, pressure vessels, and headers. They are best used for structural supports in thermal systems where thermal shock, oxidation, and creep resistance are needed. Their good mechanical and thermal properties also render them proper for refineries, petrochemical reactors, and nuclear power plant internals that are subjected to severe temperature and corrosive stress conditions.
