Their typical composition features 17–19% chromium, 8–10% nickel, and an added 0.15–0.35% sulfur, which boosts machinability without significantly sacrificing corrosion resistance. In terms of mechanical properties, they boast a tensile strength of around 500–750 MPa, a yield strength of approximately 190–250 MPa, and an elongation of about 35% over 50 mm. While they may not be the best choice for welding or highly corrosive environments, SS 303 is known for its excellent toughness, good surface finish, and ease of machining, making it a great fit for high-speed manufacturing processes.
