The Stainless Steel 316 Forgings contain iron, 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum, as well as trace quantities of carbon, manganese, and silicon. This alloy has exceptional corrosion resistance, particularly in chloride-bearing environments such as seawater. Mechanical properties are a tensile strength of 515–690 MPa, yield strength of 205–290 MPa, and elongation of 40–50%. The molybdenum adds improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance, and the structural stability of the alloy guarantees consistent performance at high temperatures.
