Stainless Steel 316L square bars and rods consist of iron, 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, 2–3% molybdenum, and a maximum of 0.03% carbon content. The lowering of the carbon content reduces the probability of carbide precipitation on welding, leading to greater resistance to intergranular corrosion. The molybdenum enhances resistance against pitting corrosion and crevice corrosion, particularly in the presence of chlorides. These bars are usually supplied with a tensile strength of approximately 485 MPa and a yield strength of about 170 MPa. Excellent weldability, formability, and toughness are the reasons Stainless Steel 316L bars are known for. They ensure sound mechanical performance even in adverse and corrosive environments.
