Stainless Steel 317L flat bars consist of iron, 18–20% chromium, 11–15% nickel, 3–4% molybdenum, and up to a maximum of 0.03% carbon content. The increased molybdenum content enhances pitting, crevice corrosion, and chemical attack resistance, particularly in acidic and chloride-containing environments. The flat bars have a tensile strength of about 515 MPa and a yield strength of about 205 MPa. The reduced carbon content reduces the susceptibility to intergranular corrosion, particularly after welding. 317L also has remarkable ductility, weldability, and formability that make it suitable for fabrications exposed to extreme corrosion and high mechanical stress.
