Stainless Steel 416 is a free-machining martensitic stainless steel alloy that contains about 12–14% chromium and 0.15% carbon, with added sulfur (0.15–0.35%) to boost machinability. It strikes a balance with moderate corrosion resistance while delivering impressive mechanical strength. SS 416 boasts a tensile strength ranging from 550–750 MPa, a yield strength of around 275 MPa, and can reach hardness levels of up to 35 HRC after heat treatment.
