Stainless Steel 420 is a high-carbon martensitic stainless steel that contains around 12–14% chromium and a minimum of 0.15% carbon. It boasts good corrosion resistance along with excellent hardness and strength after undergoing heat treatment. The mechanical properties include a tensile strength ranging from 700 to 1000 MPa, a yield strength of about 500 MPa, and a hardness that can reach up to 55 HRC when fully hardened. Notably, SS 420 is magnetic in both its annealed and hardened states.
