Stainless Steel 422 is a martensitic stainless steel alloy known for its high strength and impressive oxidation resistance. Typically, it contains 11–13% chromium, 0.20–0.30% carbon, 0.80–1.25% molybdenum, along with tungsten and vanadium to boost performance. SS 422 boasts a tensile strength of up to 1035 MPa and a yield strength around 725 MPa, and it can be heat-treated to achieve hardness levels exceeding 40 HRC. It retains its strength and oxidation resistance at temperatures reaching 649°C (1200°F), making it perfect for applications that involve high mechanical loads and elevated thermal conditions.
