Stainless Steel 431 is a robust martensitic stainless steel alloy, featuring a chemical makeup of 15–17% chromium and 1.2–2.0% nickel, along with a low carbon content of about 0.20%. This alloy strikes a great balance between corrosion resistance, toughness, and tensile strength. It can be heat treated to enhance its mechanical properties, achieving tensile strength levels between 850 and 1000 MPa, along with good impact resistance. Stainless Steel 431 also offers moderate corrosion resistance in both marine and industrial settings, making it a solid choice for high-stress and mildly corrosive applications.
