Stainless Steel 440C is a high-carbon martensitic stainless steel that contains about 16–18% chromium and 0.95–1.20% carbon, along with small amounts of manganese, silicon, and molybdenum. It can be heat-treated to achieve the highest hardness levels among all stainless steels, reaching a Rockwell hardness of up to 60 HRC. This material boasts excellent wear resistance, decent corrosion resistance in mild environments, and impressive strength, with a tensile strength of around 760 MPa and a yield strength of about 450 MPa. These properties make it ideal for high-stress, wear-intensive applications.
