Stainless Steel 440C Round Bars and Rods generally consist of 16–18% Chromium, 0.95–1.20% Carbon, along with trace amounts of Manganese, Silicon, and Molybdenum. The high carbon content allows for heat treatment, achieving a maximum hardness of about 58–60 HRC. Mechanical properties include a tensile strength ranging from approximately 760–1100 MPa, yield strength between 450–800 MPa, and excellent wear resistance. While its corrosion resistance is not as high as austenitic grades, SS 440C performs admirably in mild atmospheres and fresh water. It is magnetic and provides exceptional dimensional stability after hardening and tempering, making it ideal for high-precision applications.
